Purpose of the session

At this evidence session the Committee asks the Minister about the effectiveness of the interventions in Rotherham and Tower Hamlets councils, what lessons he has learned about how the Department monitors local authorities, and about the cost and transparency of the arrangements.

Background

Commissioners were imposed on the London Borough of Tower Hamlets following allegations of corruption, and on Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in the wake of the child sexual exploitation scandal.
