Damian Collins MP, Chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, has joined forces with Bob Zimmer MP, Chair of the Canadian Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, to form an ‘international grand committee' on disinformation and ‘fake news'. Other parliaments are being invited to send representatives to the session which will be led by the DCMS Committee as part of its ongoing inquiry into Disinformation and 'fake news'.

The hearing on Tuesday 27 November will allow collaborative scrutiny by national committees of both the Westminster parliament and the Parliament of Canada in their examinations of digital policy including disinformation and governance of the internet.

Each committee has separately sought evidence from Facebook over failures of process, including the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and subsequent data breaches. A number of requests have been issued by the DCMS Committee to Mark Zuckerberg to give evidence in person; none has been successful.
