Sub-Committee to publish Apprenticeships report

The Sub-Committee, formed of Members from the Education and Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committees, began this inquiry in February 2016, to examine the Government's proposed changes to the apprenticeship system, including the Apprenticeship Levy, the Institute for Apprenticeships, and the target of 3 million apprentices by 2020.

During the course of its inquiry the Sub-Committee heard from apprenticeship training providers, academics and business organisations, as well as the Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills. It also held a seminar with young people on apprenticeship programmes.

Committee membership and purpose

The Committee on Education, Skills and the Economy was set up in December 2015 to bring together Members from the Education Committee and the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee to examine issues around education and skills, and how they impact upon business and the economy. The Business, Innovation and Skills Committee became the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee after Government changes in October 2016.
