The Energy and Climate Change Committee launches an inquiry into the fifth carbon budget, looking at the advice of the Committee on Climate Change. The Committee aims to help inform the Government's decision on setting the budget.

The Climate Change Act 2008 requires Government to set, in advance, carbon budgets for 5-year periods. The Committee on Climate Change (CCC), an independent body established by that Act, advises Government on these targets. It published its advice on the level at which the fifth Carbon Budget (2028-32) should be set on 26 November 2015. The Government is required to set the fifth carbon budget in legislation by the end of June 2016.

Send a written submission

The Committee invites responses addressing some, or all, of the following questions in no more than 3000 words:

  • What is your view on the Committee on Climate Change's advice on the fifth carbon budget?
  • Should the Government set the fifth carbon budget in line with the Committee on Climate Change's advice?
  • What challenges will the Government face in meeting the fifth carbon budget?

Deadline for submissions is Monday 1 February 2016.
