Committee advertises for an energy investment specialist adviser

• Inquiry: Investor confidence in the UK energy sector
• Energy and Climate Change Committee

Applicants should be able to provide clear expert advice, on issues relating to investment in general and investment specifically in the energy sector, to MPs in writing and in oral presentations. Advice may be requested generally (for example to help explain how energy projects are financed) or in relation to specific inquiry work (for example, to read and comment on written evidence, suggest witnesses for oral evidence and help with the preparation of briefing notes and draft reports).  Successful applicants will work closely with committee support staff in the preparation of advice, briefing material and reports for the committee, particularly in relation to the Committee's current inquiry: Investor confidence in the UK energy sector.

The successful applicant will:

• Have up-to-date knowledge of how energy projects (both renewable and non-renewable) are financed, including knowledge of financial institutions and the roles they play across different phases of the project pipeline, and the role of public policy in investment decisions
• Have good contacts with the main players in the industry and an awareness of best practice in the UK and abroad
• Have effective written and oral communication skills, including experience of communicating complex subjects in clear terms to politicians and/or senior decision makers
• Be able to attend committee meetings in London when required to do so and to work to tight deadlines
• Respect the confidentiality of committee proceedings

The appointment is for 12 months, with the option of renewal at the end of this period.  Advisers are paid for the days they work for the committee plus expenses.  Rates are dependent upon experience and knowledge.

Interested applicants are asked to provide a statement of no more than 1000 words

1. giving examples of how they meet the criteria listed above
2. suggesting, with reasons, three issues that the Committee should focus on in its Investor confidence inquiry.
