The High Speed Rail (West Midlands – Crewe) Bill Select Committee will begin to hear right to appear challenges on Wednesday 3 April at 9.30am. Members of the public are welcome to attend the hearings or may wish to view the proceedings on parliamentlive.tv.

The Committee agreed the overall approach it plans to take on the programming of petitioners.

On 26 March the Committee's hearings began with the Promoter's opening statement setting out the case for the second Additional Provision to the Bill. Copies of any presentations will be published online.

The Committee set out the programme according to the following overarching order:

  • Wednesday  3 April - Right to appear challenges (the Promoter is contacting those petitioners it intends to challenge)

Following Easter the Committee will focus on:

  • Power and Pylon petitions

followed by

  • National Farmers' Union
  • Common Lane petitions
  • Route wide issues – South to North
  • Others (including multi-site organisations and utilities)

Hearings with petitioners are expected to run from when the House returns after Easter (week commencing 23 April) and are expected to finish by the end of May. The Committee will make regular announcements on the week-by-week programme of petitioners as they are scheduled.

All meetings will take place in Committee Room 5 in the Palace of Westminster. The hearings will be open to the public, and will also be viewable on Parliament.tv.
