The Committee's final two evidence sessions will see the it quiz Ms Leadsom as well as Sir David Natzler and Ed Ollard on the R&R Bill, and whether it gives Parliament the assurance and governance structures it needs to ensure R&R will be a success.
The sessions will be held on Wednesday 13 February, the full details are:
- 10.00am Committee Room 18 – Andrea Leadsom MP, Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council
- 4.00pm Committee Room 16 – Sir David Natzler, Clerk of the House of Commons and Ed Ollard, Clerk of the Parliaments
In the first, session with the Leader of the House of Commons, questions will focus on whether she sees R&R as an opportunity to improve how democracy works in the UK or is her focus on the restoration rather than renewal aspects of the programme, and whether the Bill should be explicit in requiring public consultation as part of R&R.
In the second session with the Clerks the Committee will ask how Parliament can establish basic principles about what R&R should try to deliver, how Parliament can be an intelligent client and establish an effective relationship with the Sponsor Board who will oversee R&R, and the practical considerations of running the House of Commons and House of Lords in different and smaller buildings during the decant period.
