Committee hears evidence on impact of infrastructure on built environment

On Thursday 19 November, the House of Lords Select Committee on National Policy for the Built Environment takes evidence on infrastructure and the built environment. The Committee also hears from representatives of the development and planning industry.

- What are the main constraints on the ability of the planning and development industry to support growth? To what extent will recent and proposed national policy reforms help to address such constraints?
- How can national policy help support the revitalisation of town centres and high streets? Have any recent initiatives made an impact?
- What are the challenges associated with integrating transport and other infrastructure into the built environment? Is there scope for better national policy in this respect?
- What will be the principal built environment impacts of major infrastructure projects such as Crossrail and HS2? Are these impacts sufficiently accounted for in the planning and delivery of projects of this nature?
- How can education help to play a role in the development and maintenance of resilient built environments?
