As part of its inquiry into the sustainability of the charity sector and the challenges of charity governance, the Committee visited Manchester to meet with representatives of both the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisations (GMCVO).  Members of the Committee also held a roundtable discussion with representatives of local charities.

Visit

On Wednesday 16 November, the Committee visited Manchester to explore how charities work with local authorities, how devolution to the Greater Manchester region affects the charity sector and how charities look to innovate.

The Committee met with Councillors and representatives from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to learn more about the impact of devolution on the voluntary sector.

The visit also provided the opportunity for Members of the Committee to meet with the Chief Executive and other representatives from the Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisations (GMCVO) to discuss the impact of devolution and the current climate for charities in the North West.

Finally, the Committee held a roundtable discussion with representatives of a number of local charities, with a focus on innovation and connected issues.
