Areas of discussion

On housing the Committee asks officials whether the Government supports financial products that allow parents to use equity in their own homes to provide a deposit for the children to obtain a mortgage, whether subsidies for first-time buyers is likely to be a long-term part of the Governments housing policy and what more local authorities could be doing to support the housing needs of older people.

The session also covers the role of communities in tackling age discrimination and loneliness, as well as intergenerational imbalances affecting younger people – such as housing shortages, low pay, job insecurity and poor in-work progression.
