On Tuesday 12 July, the Select Committee on the Licensing Act 2003 takes evidence from the Local Government Association (LGA) and a range of local authorities on the effectiveness of the legislation.

The session will examine the Local Government view and experience of the Licensing Act 2003 and its implementation. This will include:

  • the key aims of the Act and the four licensing objectives
  • particular challenges in rural and urban areas
  • the impact of an increase in off-trade sales
  • the decline in night clubs and members' clubs
  • planning and licensing issues
  • alcohol related crime and disorder
  • implementation and decision making
