To manage the increased number of instruments laid under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 the Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee has split into two sub-committees: Sub-Committee A (meeting Mondays) and Sub-Committee B (meeting Tuesdays).

The aim is to double the Committee's capacity to cope with the increased workload from Brexit-related legislation. The rationale behind the decision to split is explained in more detail in Chapter 3 of the Committee's 37th Report.

The Sub-Committee will be scrutinising both instruments laid under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 and regular instruments.

Instruments for consideration will be divided equally between the sub-committees, and there will be no division by department or subject area.

The Sub-Committee will publish its Report on Thursdays.

Sub-Committee B will be chaired by Lord Cunningham. The membership of the Sub-Committee will be provided by half of the membership of the main committee, and supplemented by co-opted members.

Sub-Committee A will be chaired by Lord Trefgarne, who will also remain as Chair of the main Committee (which will no longer meet regularly). Sub-Committee A will publish its report on Wednesday mornings. The two reports will both carry equal weight in terms of recommendations and reporting.
