As part of its inquiry into social mobility in the transition from school to work, the Committee visited Derby College, the International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGS), and Rolls-Royce.

Visit

On 24 November, the Committee visited Derby to learn more about the relationship between local schools and employers, and to see how they are working together to meet the needs of young people aged 14-24.

The Committee met with local students at Derby College to learn about what careers guidance they had received; and explored the extent to which their aspirations were being met.

It was also an opportunity for the Committee to hear from experts at the International Centre for Guidance Studies (iCeGS), an applied research centre that specialises in career guidance, career development and employability skills, based at the University of Derby.

Finally, members of the Committee met with apprentices and went on a tour of the Rolls-Royce Learning and Development Centre in Derby.
