FE and school leaders discuss employment opportunities and outcomes for young people

On Wednesday 28 October, the House of Lords Select Committee on Social Mobility will explore provision from age 14 in the education system in the United Kingdom, as part of its inquiry into social mobility in the transition from school to work, and young people's choices and opportunities.

Areas of discussion

The Committee will explore a number of issues with the witnesses including:

  • the importance of post-14 education, careers guidance, work experience, funding, and performance measures;
  • inequality of provision for girls, BAME groups, and working-class boys;
  • whether post-14 provision adequately prepares young people for work; and
  • the role of Ofsted and the possible outcomes of the Government's review of further education.
