Education Secretary and Skills Minister gives evidence on social mobility

On Wednesday 9 December, in the final evidence session of its inquiry into the social mobility in the transition from school to work, the House of Lords Select Committee on Social Mobility question the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Secretary of State for Education, and Nick Boles MP, Minister for Skills.

Areas of discussion

The Committee will explore a number of issues with the Ministers including:

  • the policy focus on the group of young people who do not do A-Levels or attend university
  • addressing the fragmented education system and pathways through it
  • alternative routes to employment, which are not higher education or apprenticeships
  • funding for further education
  • employability skills, work experience and careers education
  • incentives for employers (particularly SMEs) to input into guidance, and work experience
