Have your say: laws and debates

Making laws is one of the core roles of UK Parliament. If you feel strongly about a proposed new law (bill) that Parliament is considering, or you think changes should be made to it, you can ask your MP or a member of the House of Lords to raise the issue on your behalf. You can also share your views and experiences to help inform debates led by Members of Parliament.

Engage with Chamber business

Members of Parliament often want to know how specific issues have affected the public. We bring your stories into Parliament, and enable Members to give you a voice during their debates.

Share your views on a proposed new law

There are several ways to have your say on legislation. These include contacting a member of the Lords and submitting evidence to a Public Bill Committee in the Commons.

Object to a private bill

Private bills are proposed laws that only apply to certain individuals or organisations. You can petition against a private bill if you are specifically and directly affected by it.
