Training and events
Parliament hosts events open to researchers from any discipline and career-level, and delivers training across the UK.
Training
Online training for researchers and knowledge mobilisers
We offer online training, with sessions tailored for researchers at different career stages plus knowledge mobilisers (people working in roles focused on sharing research from their institution with other sectors, or supporting the researchers they work with to do so, including academic librarians). These 30-60 minute long sessions explore how to use research to engage with Parliament. You can also watch recordings and access slides and useful resources from previous training sessions.
Parliament for Researchers with the House of Lords
Our new series of online training sessions provide an opportunity to hear directly from a Member of the House of Lords on how they engage with academic research*. During a Parliament for Researchers with the House of Lords session, attendees will find out about how research evidence is used in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and how to work with Parliament as a researcher.
These sessions are suitable for early career researchers, PhD students, researchers who are new to engaging with the UK Parliament as well as those who would benefit from a refresher. Whilst every session will cover useful information for researchers of all academic disciplines, each session will focus on a different field of study.
Register for upcoming sessions
- Parliament for Researchers with Baroness Bull - Tuesday 26 November, 13:00-14:00
- Parliament for Researchers with Baroness Harding - Tuesday 17 December, 13:00-14:00
*Please note there is a possibility that a Member of the House of Lords will be unable to attend a session as planned. In this event, the session will proceed as scheduled with a parliamentary staff member.
Face to face training for researchers and knowledge mobilisers
We do not currently offer a programme of face to face training events for researchers and knowledge mobilisers. Unfortunately we also have limited capacity to deliver talks and sessions for individual institutions. However, we can make exceptions for some events, particularly those which reach multiple institutions, under-represented groups of researchers, or institutions with which we have not previously engaged. If you would like to invite us to speak at your event, please contact the Knowledge Exchange Unit.
Events
POST
POST organises events to connect Parliamentarians with leading experts from the research community and other sectors, including government, business and non-profit organisations on a range of topics.
Select Committees
All Select Committees take evidence in public, with very few exceptions. UK residents and overseas visitors are therefore welcome to watch Committees when they are in session.
Libraries
The Libraries of both Houses organise events, sometimes open to researchers or general members of the public.
Academic fellowships
We offer a number of academic fellowships, which allow researchers to get first-hand experience of the work of Parliament.
