Commons offices

Departments and offices working for the House of Commons provide support to MPs so that they can carry out their duties.

They also provide information on the work and history of the House of Commons.

House of Commons Commission

As the overall supervisory body of the House of Commons Administration, the House of Commons Commission is responsible for the administration and services of the House

Governance Office

The Governance Office supports the Clerk of the House of Commons and the Director General of the House of Commons in their roles and provides other key corporate functions.

Commons Executive Board

The Commons Executive Board provides leadership for the House of Commons Service. It acts as a sub-committee of the Commission and is accountable to it.

Speaker's Office

The Speaker acts as chairman during debates in the House of Commons, calls MPs to speak, and sees that the rules laid down by the House are followed.

House of Commons Enquiry Service

The House of Commons Enquiry Service answers questions about the business, history and membership of the House of Commons. It also provides a range of services and publications.

Commons Library

The House of Commons Library is an independent research and information unit that provides impartial briefings to MPs and their staff

Committee Directorate

The Committee Directorate supports the work of Public Bill Committees which consider the details of particular Bills, and Select Committees which scrutinise the work of Government departments.

Commons Hansard (The Official Report)

Hansard is an edited verbatim report of proceedings in the Chamber, in Westminster Hall and in Public Bill Committees

Scrutiny Unit

The Scrutiny Unit exists to strengthen the scrutiny function of the House. It provides specialist expertise to select committees, especially (but not exclusively) on financial matters and draft Bills

Serjeant at Arms directorate

Serjeant at Arms Directorate responsible for access.

Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards

The Commissioner’s main responsibilities are: maintaining and monitoring the Register of Members’ Financial Interests, advising MPs about the rules, monitoring the operation of the code of conduct that applies to MPs, and investigating complaints.

HR & Diversity and Finance, Portfolio and Performance

Human Resources & Diversity and Finance, Portfolio and Performance's teams are responsible for providing efficient, accurate and customer-focused management of human and financial resources.

House of Commons Media Relations Team

The House of Commons Media Relations Team handles journalist queries regarding Chamber business and procedure, as well as commercial filming requests
