An article in The Sun published on 29 January 2017 stated that MPs alone consumed '100,000 chocolates bar and sugary snacks last year' when in fact this also included a range of other pass-holders on the parliamentary estate as well as members of the general public.

In light of these inaccuracies, The Sun today printed a letter correcting this story.

Sir Paul Beresford MP, Chair of the House of Commons Administration Committee, wrote in his letter:

"Please allow me to correct your article 'Podgy MPs gorge themselves on 100,000 chocolate bars and sugary snacks last year'.

The Commons catering facilities serves a wide range of customers in addition to MPs, including staff, civil servants, contractors and journalists and more than a million members of the public each year.

In all of our catering venues we focus on the sale of nutritionally balanced and healthy options."
