The House of Commons has been placed 28th in Stonewall's Top 100 Employers 2017, an impressive rise of 88 places from last year.

Stonewall's Top 100 Employers is the definitive list showcasing the best employers for lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff. The list is compiled from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, a powerful benchmarking tool used by employers to create inclusive workplaces. Now in its thirteenth year, the list celebrates the pioneering efforts of leading organisations to create inclusive workplaces.

The House of Commons Diversity and Inclusion Team aim to provide a positive, inclusive working environment where people are valued for the skills and experience they bring to work, whilst being representative of the society they serve. Whilst we have always taken an inclusive approach to the way we do things, this year the index was given more focus and has been championed by Rt. Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons.

Rt. Hon. John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, said:

"I am exceptionally proud that the House of Commons has made such significant progress in Stonewall's Workplace Equality Index of top 100 employers, which I have been passionately championing as Speaker of the House of Commons. It shows our commitment to providing a workplace where all our staff feel valued and supported. Receiving a coveted place in the Stonewall top 100 sends a strong message about who we are as an organisation. Our aim as a diverse employer is to recruit, retain and promote the best people and to be representative of the society we serve. The Stonewall WEI ranking is an important acknowledgement of our commitment to both our staff and the public. The House's position on this list represents its dedication to improving inclusivity for our people. This could not have been achieved without the ongoing efforts of our Diversity and Inclusion team, the Workplace Equality Network for LGBTIQ people, ParliOUT and its champions at all levels across the organisation.”
Anne Foster, Head of Diversity & Inclusion said:

"This really is an amazing achievement and would not have been possible without a significant input from a dedicated team, especially our Diversity & Inclusion Programme Manager Kerry O'Loughlin, our workplace equality network ParliOUT, and their champions. Together, we've demonstrated to Stonewall in our application the tremendous work taking place across Parliament and how we are promoting and supporting a workplace that is accessible, diverse, and free from discrimination."
