Houses of Parliament to illuminate to mark the Red Wednesday campaign
23 November 2016
On Wednesday 23 November both sides of the frontage of the Palace of Westminster will be illuminated red to demonstrate Parliament's support for the Red Wednesday campaign.
The Red Wednesday campaign recognises those persecuted or killed in acts of religious hatred. The Houses of Parliament will be lit from 18.30 on 23 November until dawn on 24 November.
There will be no access to the Parliamentary Estate; however, the best spot for filming or photography will be from across the river on the Albert Embankment or on Abingdon Street.
Licenced images for press will be available from 20.30 on 23 November. Requests for images should be sent to hocmediacorporate@parliament.uk.
A Parliamentary spokesperson said:
"In order to demonstrate Parliament's support for the Red Wednesday campaign, which recognises those persecuted or killed in acts of religious hatred, Mr Speaker and the Lord Speaker have agreed to light up the Palace. Parliament fully endorses the aims of this important campaign.”
