The Queen has approved the Speaker's recommendation that Sarah Davies, Principal Clerk of Select Committees, be appointed Clerk Assistant and Managing Director of the Chamber and Committees Team with effect from 29th April 2019.

The post of Clerk Assistant dates from 1640. The Chamber and Committees Team, with around 500 staff, provides advice and support for all proceedings of the House and its Committees, and also comprises the Official Report (Hansard) and the broadcasting of Parliament.

Sarah Davies, the first woman to hold permanently the position of Clerk Assistant, entered the House Service in 1993 and has worked in a number of procedural offices, including the Table, Journal and Public Bill Offices. She is a Table Clerk and has been Clerk to a number of Select Committees, including the European Scrutiny and Work and Pensions Committees.

Sarah has also had a series of strategic roles, including being the House Senior Responsible Owner for Election Services in 2017 and as Diversity and Inclusion lead within the Committee Office.
