On Friday 18 March, Parliament held an interactive digital workshop for people with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The event took place in collaboration with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. People affected by CF, a life-threatening inherited condition, are at high risk of cross infection, meaning that they are not able to meet other people with the condition.

Parliament and the CF Trust worked together to develop a model enabling participants to join a group workshop online. Each participant was able to log on to the session remotely, watch the presentation and ask questions and make comments. The interactive element meant that rather than simply broadcasting information, Parliament's Community Outreach worker was able to provide further information in response to specific queries.

Digital initiative

The joint venture was set up by CF Trust and UK Parliament's Outreach and Engagement Service to empower people with cystic fibrosis to influence change and participate in their Parliament. The initiative was the first of its kind for Parliament, which is working to maximise the opportunities digital technology can bring to democracy in the UK.
