On Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 April, the Members' Dining Room in the House of Commons will be transformed into a pop up restaurant. For two lunchtime services, members of the public will be able to dine in the House of Commons.

Visitors will be treated to a three course menu of British cuisine priced at £35 per head. Places were available to book via the Parliament website, and sold out within days of the pop up being announced. A further public dining event will take place in June, with dates to be announced in due course.

This initiative is part of the House of Commons income generation scheme, which aims to reduce the costs of running the organisation by introducing new income streams. Public dining events take place during recesses when the House is not sitting, allowing members of the public to enjoy the historic surroundings.

Members' Dining Room

The Members' Dining Room was established in 1871 as Parliament was increasingly called upon to provide catering services for MPs. Its high ceilings and Thames views make it an ideal location for a special meal.

Mark Hill, Executive Chef at the House of Commons, said:

"We are really looking forward to welcoming members of the public into the Members' Dining Room. Our chefs are keen to showcase their skills and expertise alongside our dedicated team of waiting staff who will be on hand to ensure that this is a really special occasion."
