The Government has responded to the report of the predecessor Procedure Committee on Written Parliamentary Questions: Departmental Performance in Session 2022–23.
The report highlighted quality and timeliness of responses as areas of concern, with the latter noted as a particular issue for the Department of Health and Social Care.
The Committee received responses from the Leader of the House of Commons, the Rt Hon Lucy Powell MP, on behalf of the Government, and the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care.
Cat Smith MP, Chair of the Procedure Committee, said:
“Parliamentary questions are an important tool for MPs in ensuring transparency of the Government’s work, and to seek information on behalf of their constituents. We welcome the new Government’s commitment to improving departmental performance in responses to Written Parliamentary Questions.
The Committee would like to thank the predecessor Committee for their hard work on this matter. The new Committee will build upon their work and will continue to hold the Government to account on timely and high-quality responses.”
