Parliament celebrates campaigners and community groups in the UK Parliament Week Awards event

Campaigners, petitioners, and local organisers visited Westminster today for the UK Parliament Week Awards.

The awards celebrate people and organisations across the UK who have made a difference in their community and beyond, or took part in an exceptional UK Parliament Week activity in 2023.

The following winners were announced at a special celebration at the Houses of Parliament:

• UK Parliament Week Champion of the Year Award: KAHO UK
• MPs’ Choice - Constituency Champion of the Year Award: Mark North – Freedom Community Project
• Petitioner of the Year Award: Three Dad’s Walking
• UK Parliament Week Constituency of the Year Award: Chorley

This year included the new MPs’ Choice Award for Constituency Champion of the Year. Nominations for this award were made by MPs to celebrate the hard work of constituents making a difference in their local communities.

Other awards included the UK Parliament Week Champion of the Year Award recognising schools, community groups and organisations who contributed to celebrating UK Parliament Week through creative, impactful or innovative activities.

Award winners were welcomed to Parliament for an award ceremony and a reception in the House of Commons.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons and MP for Chorley, said: ‘‘We have seen the greatest number of people ever taking part in UK Parliament Week 2023 and I am particularly proud that Chorley scooped the Constituency of the Year award for hosting a record number of events.

Also deserving of praise are campaigners who launched online petitions to get critical issues debated in the Commons, such as protecting children from harm, preventing suicide, and making allergy labelling a legal requirement.

Engaging with every aspect of Parliament is a right of every British citizen - and I welcome any initiative that encourages people to get involved.
