The Parliamentary Community

With the House of Lords rating amongst the Top 50 Inclusive UK Employers in 2017 and 2018 and being both a Disability Confident and Living Wage Employer, there is a huge range of activities across Parliament carried out by an increasingly diverse workforce, such as:

• drafting amendments to legislation; 
• maintaining the Parliamentary estate;
• researching and writing our Library Notes for debates;
• conserving the Parliamentary Archives and other heritage collections;
• high quality catering for staff and Members and for fine dining events;
• running ceremonial events such as the State Opening of Parliament and State Visits;
• liaising with Press and Media;
• producing the report of the Parliamentary Debates;
• running Select Committees

But it's not just about the job – it's about the Parliamentary community.  That means that we collaborate with our colleagues in the House of Commons and the Parliamentary Digital Service on new ideas and initiatives, we jointly provide some services for the benefit of both Houses (Archives and Procurement) and we all play our parts in making sure that the security and safety of everyone in the Parliamentary community is the number one priority. 

That gives a real sense of identity and belonging.

There are also plenty of opportunities to get actively involved in Parliamentary life. You could

• become involved in helping widen the diversity and inclusion of the Parliamentary community by joining one or more of our five active Parliamentary Workplace Equality Networks
• benefit from access to a variety of on-site restaurants 
• have the chance to work on ceremonial events such as the State Opening of Parliament and visits by other Heads of State and also apply for tickets for Trooping the Colour and the State Opening of Parliament
• be the envy of your friends and families when you give them their own private, insider guided tour of the Palace of Westminster.
