NATO Parliamentary Assembly Committees and other groups

Much of the Assembly's work is carried out by its five Committees and eight sub-Committees whose remit is to consider the major security and policy challenges confronting Alliance states. The sub-Committees explore policy issues in more detail.

The Committees choose subjects to report on each year and meet experts throughout the year to inform their understanding of the chosen issue. The Rapporteur of each Committee or sub-Committee presents a report on the subject to the Committee which is debated and may be amended before being presented for agreement to the plenary session.

The UK has a different number of seats on different Committees. As well as full Members, there are places for “alternate” members, who attend meetings in the event that full members cannot.
