Annual Report April 2016 – March 2017

The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, Kathryn Hudson, today published her annual report for 2016–17. This is her fifth annual report and the last before the end of her term of office in December 2017.

The Report describes the work of the Commissioner during the year, including the outcomes of completed inquiries into the conduct of individual Members, the preparation of the four registers of interests, and her own review of the Code of Conduct and Guide to the Rules concluded in April 2017. The Commissioner now awaits the formation of a new Committee on Standards which she will urge to consider her proposals for change as soon as possible.

During the year, 143 formal complaints were received, of which 20 were accepted  for inquiry. 23 allegations were inquired into and resolved. The Commissioner continued to ensure that confidential advice was available to Members and their staff, including briefings about the registration requirements.
