Commissioner’s statement following media reports of 29 March 2023 on an Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme case

Following a request from both parties to the investigation and in response to recent media reporting, I am taking the unusual step of using my powers to correct the record. The investigation in the case referred to in recent media reports is ongoing, and no decision has yet been made. 

Confidentiality is vital to the integrity of all ICGS cases. Divulging the details of an ongoing investigation may make it difficult to carry out the investigation fairly and thoroughly, pose a risk to the wellbeing of others involved in the process and damage their reputation and that of the ICGS. Any breach of confidentiality will be treated seriously and may be considered as an aggravating factor in a case.
