Safety netting (2024)

Request ref: F24-083

Date of response: 28/02/2024

Request

The estimated/actual cost is to provide a netting in portcullis house as a safety mitigation against falling items

Response

In the first instance, please understand that netting is currently being installed in the atrium of Portcullis House to provide a further level of assurance, and as an additional safety mitigation, ahead of a longer-term and wider programme of works for the building as a whole. Work to install the netting is currently underway.

The House of Commons holds an estimate of this cost only.

Including enabling works, materials, installation and maintenance, the estimated cost for the safety netting in Portcullis House is £220,000 (excluding VAT), with all costs being met from existing budgets.

It may also help you to know that value for money has been a key consideration when scoping the works required for installation, whilst at the same time ensuring the safety of those using the space.
