Allowances

Selected letter A

Allowances are sums of money paid by the House of Lords to its members in place of a salary, to help cover their work-related costs.

Until 2010, members of the House of Commons could also claim some work-related allowances. MPs' business costs and expenses are now reimbursed by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).
