If you begin to feel ill or find that you require medical assistance, please inform a UK Parliament employee.
Contact a First Aider
First aiders are not medical professionals. Please use your judgment to determine whether a casualty requires a first aider, an ambulance, or can be brought to the minor treatment clinic. To contact a first aider you can:
- Call Security Control on +44(0)20 7219 5311
- Ask at a reception desk
- Look for individuals wearing a green first aid lanyard
To request an ambulance, you must call +44 (0)20 7219 3333.
When deciding whether to call an ambulance, consider if the injured person can instead be transported to hospital by taxi or with someone’s assistance.
Minor treatment clinic
The Minor Treatment Clinic is located off the Lower Waiting Hall on the Principal Floor in the Palace of Westminster. This is a drop-in service. To contact a Clinical Nurse Adviser please call +44 (0)20 7219 5103.
Opening times:
- Monday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Tuesday - Thursday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
- Friday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
The minor treatment clinic closes between 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM for lunch.
Alternatively
- Please contact the Clinical Nurse on +44 (0)20 7219 5103 during working hours. Please note, reception may answer and request a nurse call back via email if the nurse is busy with a client.
- The Nurse will make an assessment and if appropriate, arrange a telephone appointment or a face-to-face consultation with the on-site GP.
The on-site GP service is in the First Aid Room, Portcullis House (at the bottom of the escalators, next to the Underground exit).
We can also store medications which require refrigeration. For your safety, special containers can be provided for disposal of hypodermic needles.
Defibrilators
Defibrilators are located in every building on the UK Parliament estate.
They can be found in the following publicly accessible locations:
Palace of Westminster
- Ground floor - Cromwell Green visitors' entrance - located at the bottom of the first cupboard on the right-hand side as you enter the room
- Principal floor - Central Lobby located under the main reception desk
- Principal floor - Lower Waiting Hall - located adjacent to the the minor treatment clinic, in a cupboard labelled "First Aid" within the small hallway
Portcullis House
- Ground floor - Atrium - located at the top of the escalators on the wall
