Celebrating British food
The House of Commons actively champions the producing, buying and eating of British food throughout its catering offer wherever possible.
Sausages
Our sausages come from an award winning producer who is committed to using only the finest ingredients in their sausages, ensuring a great British sausage at a consistently high standard.
Chicken
All fresh chicken sold in Catering Services outlets comes from an EFSIS certified, Red Tractor licensed company that has farms in Norfolk and Suffolk.
Turkey
Our turkey is of UK origin and reared on farms within the county of Herefordshire.
Pork
Our British Pork is bred and reared in Surrey on farmland consisting of over 250 acres.
Lamb and Beef
All lamb and beef is of British origin and meets strict welfare specifications that ensure that animals were raised under extremely high standards of husbandry. Our suppliers have long standing ties with EBLEX and are Red Tractor licensees.
Milk and Cream
Fresh milk and cream is collected from specially selected BRC approved, independent dairy processors who all carry the Red Tractor mark.
Eggs
All our fresh eggs are free range, Freedom Food assured and Lion stamped from The Lakes Free Range Egg Company, a family owned business based in the heart of Cumbria.
We have purchased only Lion stamped fresh eggs since the mark was revived by the British Egg Information Service in 1998. The House of Commons was awarded the Good Egg Award (run by Compassion in World Farming) in its first year (2007) in recognition of the House's purchasing policy.
Bacon
All of our bacon comes from pigs reared, slaughtered and cured in the UK by a dedicated group of farmers based predominantly in East Anglia and Southern England. The farms are registered with Assured British Pigs and Freedom Food. Only quality British pork is used to produce the dry cured back bacon for our breakfasts with no added water used in the curing process.
