Members' Dining Room

The Members’ Dining Room stands as the epitome of grandeur, reigning supreme as the largest and most versatile event venue. This distinguished space is not merely a room; it is an architectural masterpiece that effortlessly caters to a spectrum of events, from corporate presentations to lavish dinners and licensed wedding ceremonies. Immerse your guests in opulence within this splendid chamber adorned with exquisite detailing, an ambiance that is bound to captivate and leave an indelible impression.

Originally conceived as a conference room and christened the 'Painted Chamber,' paying homage to a room in the medieval Palace, the Members’ Dining Room was inaugurated in 1871 in response to the growing demand for elevated dining facilities. In a moment of architectural evolution around 1930, the south wall was strategically removed, seamlessly integrating a two-bay serving room, thereby enhancing the magnificence of the Dining Room.

Simultaneously, the northern expanse underwent a transformation, with the north entrance door partitioned for use as the adjacent Chess Room. This meticulous reconfiguration not only added to the overall allure but also revealed a glimpse of the room's storied past. The ceiling, an intricate display of craftsmanship in the northern section, features carved shields representing the three kingdoms, embellished with pink and green foliage decoration.

The history of this august space unfolds further, with original plans for fresco paintings on the walls left unrealised, replaced instead by hardboard panels adorned with elegant wallpaper. Amidst these architectural subtleties, the over-doors proudly showcase the Royal coat of arms, a subtle nod to the room's historical significance.

Step into the Members’ Dining Room, where the convergence of history and elegance creates an atmosphere unparalleled in prestige and sophistication, setting the stage for extraordinary events that transcend the ordinary.
