Lower the voting age?
The voting age was lowered to 18 in 1969. There have been recent campaigns to reduce it to 16 and there have been reports on the issue by the Electoral Commission and the Youth Citizenship Commission.
The Scottish Parliament passed legislation enabling 16 and 17 year olds to vote in the referendum on Scottish independence in September 2014 but this did not extend to other elections. There are currently no plans for UK Government-sponsored legislation on the issue.
