About the groups

Parliamentary Archives and Birmingham Archives and Heritage worked with two groups of young local people.  These were a group of Year 8 and 9 pupils from Four Dwellings High School, Quinton, and members of a youth group from Kingstanding.  These two groups investigated the history of women's right to vote, and links between Birmingham and the suffragette movement.

The school group researched particular actions carried out in Birmingham by suffragettes, based on records found in Birmingham Archives and Heritage.  Based on their response to these documents they worked with a local film maker, Sima Gonsai, to produce a film about the suffragettes in Birmingham, which is available on YouTube.

A trail leaflet was also produced which highlights local sites associated with the history of the electoral reform movement, both in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
