Suffrage campaigners increasingly took to the streets with speeches, rallies and demonstrations. This album of banner designs for the Artists Suffrage League by Mary Lowndes dates from c.1908. Huge public rallies were held across Britain as a focal point for the suffrage societies - the first London march in 1907 saw some three thousand suffrage campaigners participate but by 1913 there were over forty thousand involved.  The designs are a rare surviving example of the cultural and artistic input into a campaign that called on the talents of artists and actresses as well as lobbyists and petitioners.
