Meet the history detectives

The members of the group were:
Les Williamson, Jill Clarke, Val Parsons, Merrie Longbottom, Carole Lee, Janis Parker, Dennis Durrant, Tony Betts and Elaine Thorpe.

They are pictured here with Victoria Horth (Norfolk Record Office), David Prior (Parliamentary Archives) and Laura Gardner (Parliamentary Archives).

The group was supported by mentors, who had taken part in the first Norwich case study in July 2009. Mentors included in this picture were Pauline May, Ann Chesterton, Jean Palmer and Wendy Rix.

Mentors not in this picture were Marion Folkes, Patricia Wills-Jones, Geraldine Sayers Cowper and Jenny Zmroczek.

During their four days in Norwich the group met staff from the Norfolk Record Office as well as the Parliamentary Archives and learnt about the work of both.

They heard about the work of conservators and had an introduction to palaeography - how to read old forms of writing - to help them carry out their research. Their trip to London was also a chance to see behind the scenes at the Parliamentary Archives.
