Regulations relating to debtors, 1803

Each gaol had its own rules and regulations.  This set of rules from Norwich dates to 1803.  The section pictured covers the rules relating to debtors, and shows how they were treated differently from those who had committed a crime, known as felons.  A slightly later set of rules for Norwich Gaol was found in the Parliamentary Archives, collected as evidence by the Select Committee into the State of the Gaols, 1819.
