Order of service for Churchill's funeral

After three days of lying in state, Sir Winston's Churchill's funeral was held on Saturday 30 January 1965. At 9.45am Big Ben was silenced and Churchill's coffin placed on a gun carriage, which was escorted by military bands to St Paul's Cathedral. While passing St James's Park a ninety gun salute was fired, one for each year of Churchill's life.

This order of service would have been one of many distributed before the funeral ceremony at the Saint Pauls Cathedral, which was attended by over 3000 people. Within the order of service are a number of Churchill's favourite hymns. These had been chosen by his wife, Clementine and family and included ‘He Who Would Valiant Be' and ‘Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory of the Coming of the Lord.' Churchill was buried in his hometown of Bladon, Oxfordshire.
