The House of Commons book of remembrance 1939-45

The House of Commons book of remembrance 1939-45 commemorates the Members and staff of the House of Commons, and their sons and daughters, who lost their lives in the Second World War. In all, 62 names are listed: 23 Members of the House of Commons, 35 sons of Members, one daughter of a Member, and three staff of the House. In most cases, details of their armed service are included.

The House of Lords also produced a volume to commemorate its fallen. A crowned portcullis appears on the front cover of both volumes: this image is recognised as the emblem of both Houses of Parliament. Both 1939-45 books of remembrance are held by the Parliamentary Archives in Westminster. Digitized versions are freely available for anyone to see via their online catalogue - visit the Parliamentary Archives online.
