Death of Robert Ambrey Court

Robert Ambrey Court was killed in action on 26 April 1917 in France, and was buried at Hermies, Pas-de-Calais, France.  He was 36 years old. He left a widow, Violet, and a seven year old son, Richard Ambrey Court.

The documents pictured are extracts from the House of Lords Offices Commmittee reports (Parliamentary Archives, HL/PO/CO/1/423) from 1917, showing the report of his death and two payments they made to his widow, totalling £470. The House of Lords Offices Committee had previously been told details of his service, along with other staff in the Lords.

Robert's name is inscribed on the war memorial in the Royal Gallery in the House of Lords and on Parliament's War Memorial in Westminster Hall.

He also has an entry in the House of Lords Book of Remembrance.
