Corporal Reginald Lanchbery

One man from the Serjeant-at-Arms Department was killed in action during the First World War: Corporal Reginald Lanchbery, a Sessional Cleaner, volunteered for service with the 8th Royal Highlanders (the Black Watch) in December 1914, fought at Loos in September 1915 and died on 17 July 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. He is remembered on Parliament's First World War memorial in Westminster Hall, and in the House of Commons Book of Remembrance for the First World War (pictured: Parliamentary Archives reference PIC/D/3/1).
