Address to the Sovereign on the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand

On 30 June 1914 the  House of Lords resolved that an Address be presented to George V relating to events which had taken place 2 days previously on 28 June.  On a state visit to Sarajevo Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife had been assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb. This was the  trigger for conflict in Europe. In expression of his sympathy for the late Archduke and his wife, George V ordered that the British Court would spend a week in mourning.
