These papers sent to William Wedgwood Benn MP (later 1st Viscount Stansgate) show women's campaigning organisations lobbying MPs after 1918. The Women's Freedom League lobbied Benn to vote for the Women's Emancipation Bill in 1919, publishing the names of all the MPs who supported and opposed the third reading of the Bill on 4 July, and even issuing their own 'three-line whip'. In 1921, the National Union of Societies for Equal Citizenship (formerly the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies) lobbied Benn on regulations restricting women in the civil service and diplomatic service following the passage of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act, unsuccessfully arguing that such regulations were contrary to the spirit of the Act.
