A guide to the exhibition
Rommi Smith was the parliamentary writer in residence to the British Slave Trade: Abolition, Parliament and People exhibition which marked the bicentenary of abolition. She wrote the poem 'A guide to the exhibition' to mark its opening in Westminster Hall, and performed it at the launch.
The poem describes her emotional response to the artefacts on display and the history they represent. She calls other visitors not to take a prescribed approach to the material, and to see that everything in the glass cases is much more than just an object.
