Aiden Gilbert
Letter by Aiden Gilbert, Year 12
How many of you have slaves in your home? How many of you confer with your slaves? How many of you believe you know what your slaves are feeling?
Whatever you think you know about these mute people that fill our lives, who do our bidding with no resistance, whose only real family are those they encounter in situations equal to their own. Whatever you think of them, you are wrong.
How many of you know the feeling of a white hot iron brand, the size of a grown man's palm being shoved to the very centre of your breast until the flesh shrinks and blisters, and a smell is left thick in the air?
You will never know the agony of being split from family, forced to work, punished for unjust reasons.
To know pain and suffering of an entire society, is to know your slave.
