Confession, Katherine Bailey

Poem by Katherine Bailey, Year 12

The staircase within me thinks it's time to step
To reach for new heights and claim the next
Hard platform to rest upon. To change the players part
That stands those footsteps above.
The staircase within me thinks it's time to change
The climbing order the pecking order, to change and
Strut down the footfalls that keep the order

"Look at my mother is she kind?
She's the one they say is
chained up in her mind."
So now it's me, just me talking to myself
I think I'm going crazy
Because even my own mind seems to say:
"Look at me I ain't kind
I am the one chained up in my mind."
