Trapped in a dry cage with a watery key, Abigail Moloney

Poem by Abigail Moloney, Year 8

Trapped in a Dry Cage with a Watery Key
Freedom is awating me
My yen to be free, to be kissed by a cool summer's
breeze thumps against my heart
But as I enter the numbing water, my lungs
begin to fill
my wish is only to depart
to depart from my life of devastation, to a new life,
to fly high like a flossy white dove, searing though the
rustling autumn leaves
I'm not afraid, yet I feel
Weak as I sink lower, nearer to all my family and friends
My lungs stop pounding and my heart gives up
Flushed with relief, reaching out. I am released.
